Mountaintop

Luke 9:32-33 English Standard Version (ESV)

32 Now Peter and those who were with him were heavy with sleep, but when they became fully awake they saw his glory and the two men who stood with him.33 And as the men were parting from him, Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good that we are here. Let us make three tents, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah”—not knowing what he said.

Have you ever had one of those Mountaintop experiences?  One where you felt the presence of God, felt your heart strangely warmed?  You don’t want it to end, you want to stay right there with it, hoping it will just continue on forever.  But that’s not really how it works, I don’t think so anyway.  We have these bursts of amazingness to draw us closer to God, to revive us, to reignite the fire within us for our faith but if we stayed there in that moment forever I imagine it would shrink and become normal.  We’d become complacent.  Instead, when we have these wonderful experiences, we have to come down and process it and use it to propel us into ministry with and for the people around us.

Loving God,
We love those precious moments with you.  Help us to know we need to come down from that mountain top so that we can do the work you call us to do
.  Amen.
