25-26 Righteous Father, the world has never known you, But I have known you, and these disciples know That you sent me on this mission. I have made your very being known to them— Who you are and what you do— And continue to make it known, So that your love for me Might be in them Exactly as I am in them.
This week’s scriptures have seemed to me to be a sort of sending prayer. Jesus asking for God to draw us in and encouraging us to be drawn into oneness with God and each other so that we can then be sent out into the world to live in a way that draws others into this love he has made known to us. This idea of oneness, of unity with one another and with Christ is central to our faith and yet, lately, we’ve seen more divisiveness than ever. How can we witness to the world in a way that brings about more unity? I think it all begins with love.
Lord,
Help us to set aside our differences, to look one another in the eye and see you reflected there and remember that we are called first to love. Amen.
If you find this devotion to be a blessing, please share it with a friend.
